When for health reasons, she could not teach a class one semester, she advocated that her unofficial mentee Dustin DeFelice be allowed to teach her course and receive payment. The compensation for teaching the course was used as seed funds for this award, which is intended to support students and bring visibility to mentors within and beyond the ELC. It should be noted that Dr. Goertler has mentored hundreds of students, faculty, and language learners throughout her awesome career.
